....and we're back.

So as some of you who ventured over to my little bit of the universe may have noticed yesterday, I did eventually manage to get my site blacked out.  Once I got to work, it took me all of five minutes.  Additionally, I've managed to get back to my original template without tearing a hole in the time-space continuum, so that's cool.

I'd say the blackout yesterday was fairly successful, and it was heartening as the day went on to see how many sites were, if not participating, at least drawing attention to the issue and and saying "Hey, this is bullshit."

The fight is not over yet.  There's still the vote to be had on January 24th, so I urge you, if you are in the U.S. to write your congressman.  You can follow the link I've put in the top right-hand corner, and that will stay there until the vote.  If you're outside of the U.S. then be sure to familiarize yourself with any similar legislation that may be in the works.

NOW Toronto has a link with some of the legislation in the works for Canada.  Check it out here.

  1. I joined in a very low-fi version of a protest as I haven't clue#1 how to black out.
So glad to see so many drawing attention to this wrong-minded vaguely written authoritarian legislation.

  2. I was so proud to log into blogger yesterday and see all the posts with SOPA in it. Unity is everything with a cause like this!

And you're right, the fight isn't over. Not by a long shot.

  3. There's still a long way to go on this, but I just can't imagine this actually being passed.

  4. I was happy to see that President Obama said he would veto SOPA legislation.. But, who knows if he will stick to that. He said the same thing about NDAA.

  5. I already let my congress people know. I had no clue how to block out my site.

  6. I blacked out and like you I believe it was if nothing else, a big "fuck you!" to Congress for even considering this bill. Some reps listened and changed their minds about supporting it. I guess we'll see what happens on the 24th. We rocked it though! Way to protest everyone!

  7. Welcome back, such as it is. Now that SOPA is dead (just announced a bit ago), we just need the postponement of PIPA to turn into a death sentence over the weekend and we'll be back to normal.

I particularly like the way Anonymous took down RIAA, MPAA, and the Justice Department yesterday.

  10. These bills are all sorts of crazy. If you take the principal idea behind it all which is that sharing copyrighted material is illegal and should be banned, than would public libraries also be in violation?!

  11. I missed the blackouts because I was lazy and uninformed. Now, if I can just figure out how to get the code for that badge...
